Ingredients
  

Patties

  • 1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20 chuck)
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • Salt
  • Black pepper

For Serving

  • 4 brioche or potato burger buns
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced ripe tomatoes
  • Thinly sliced red onion
  • Dill pickle slices
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Mayonnaise

Preparation

  • Divide the ground beef, form into ½ to ¾-inch thick patties with a shallow indentation, and season both sides with salt and black pepper.

Cooking

  • If grilling, preheat to medium-high, brush grates with oil, and cook patties 3-5 minutes per side for medium-rare.
  • If stovetop, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium-high heat, then cook patties 3-5 minutes per side for medium-rare.
  • During the last minute of cooking, add a cheese slice to each patty and cover if stovetop to melt perfectly.
  • Toast the cut sides of the burger buns until golden brown.
  • Spread condiments on buns, place a cheesy patty on the bottom, layer with desired toppings, and cap with top bun. Serve immediately.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of garlic powder or onion powder to the ground beef. Adjust cooking times based on your desired doneness and the thickness of your patties.
