Ingredients
Patties
- 1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20 chuck)
- 4 slices American cheese
- Salt
- Black pepper
For Serving
- 4 brioche or potato burger buns
- 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
- Lettuce leaves
- Sliced ripe tomatoes
- Thinly sliced red onion
- Dill pickle slices
- Ketchup
- Mustard
- Mayonnaise

Preparation
- Divide the ground beef, form into ½ to ¾-inch thick patties with a shallow indentation, and season both sides with salt and black pepper.
Cooking
- If grilling, preheat to medium-high, brush grates with oil, and cook patties 3-5 minutes per side for medium-rare.
- If stovetop, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium-high heat, then cook patties 3-5 minutes per side for medium-rare.
- During the last minute of cooking, add a cheese slice to each patty and cover if stovetop to melt perfectly.
- Toast the cut sides of the burger buns until golden brown.
- Spread condiments on buns, place a cheesy patty on the bottom, layer with desired toppings, and cap with top bun. Serve immediately.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of garlic powder or onion powder to the ground beef. Adjust cooking times based on your desired doneness and the thickness of your patties.
