This Apple & Sausage Stuffing Bake is a hearty and flavorful side dish perfect for any holiday meal or comforting dinner. Featuring savory sausage, sweet apples, and aromatic herbs, it’s a crowd-pleaser.
Ingredients
1 lb bulk pork sausage
1 large onion, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and diced
8 cups day-old bread, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1 tsp dried sage
1/2 tsp dried thyme
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups chicken broth
2 large eggs, beaten
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until browned, breaking it up with a spoon; drain excess fat.
3. Add onion and celery; cook 5–7 minutes until softened.
4. Stir in diced apples; cook 3–5 minutes until slightly tender.
5. In a large bowl, combine bread cubes, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper.
6. Add the sausage mixture to the bread; toss to combine.
7. Whisk chicken broth with beaten eggs; pour over bread mixture and toss until evenly moistened.
8. Transfer to the prepared baking dish.
9. Bake 35–45 minutes, until golden and heated through. If edges brown too quickly, tent loosely with foil. Rest 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
Add chopped fresh parsley or a pinch of nutmeg for extra flavor.
Assemble ahead, cover, and refrigerate overnight; add 10–15 minutes to bake time if starting cold.
Leftovers reheat well in the oven or microwave.
