Description
Spooky, savory, and utterly delicious Halloween Skull Potato Bites are the perfect appetizer or side dish for your Halloween party! These mashed potato treats are shaped like miniature skulls and baked until golden brown.
Ingredients
2 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and quartered
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1/4 cup whole milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives (optional, for garnish)
Food-safe skull molds
Instructions
1. Boil the quartered potatoes in a large pot of salted water until very tender, about 15–20 minutes.
2. Drain well and return to the empty pot over low heat for 1–2 minutes to steam off excess moisture.
3. Remove from heat; add butter, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mash until smooth and creamy.
4. Transfer mashed potatoes to a piping bag with a star tip (or a zip-top bag with a corner snipped).
5. Lightly grease oven-safe skull molds; pipe the potato mixture into each cavity, filling well.
6. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes, until edges are golden brown.
7. Carefully remove skull potato bites from molds. Garnish with fresh chives, if desired, and serve warm.
Notes
For extra cheesiness, mix in 1/4 cup shredded cheddar with the potatoes.
Use oven-safe silicone skull molds for easiest release.
Can be made ahead and reheated gently in the oven.
