Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grab a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until the apples are evenly coated.
  • Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.

Topping

  • In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Cut in the cold, cubed butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in the milk until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Assembly and Baking

  • Evenly spoon the topping mixture over the apple filling in the baking dish.
  • Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling.

Serving

  • Let the cobbler cool slightly before serving, and optionally serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

For best results, use a mix of sweet and tart apples like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp. Adjust sugar to your preference. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated. Adding a pinch of allspice to the filling can enhance the flavor profile.
