Ingredients

  • 6 medium-sized apples such as Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Fuji, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter cut into small pieces

For the Cinnamon Roll Topping

  • 1 tube (8 count) refrigerated cinnamon roll dough with icing
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For Serving

  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream optional

Instructions
 

Prepare the Apple Filling

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, flour, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Add the lemon juice and stir gently to coat the apples.
  • Pour the apple mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Dot the top of the apples with the small pieces of butter.

Make the Cinnamon Roll Topping

  • Open the tube of cinnamon rolls, separate each roll, and cut into 4-6 pieces.
  • In a medium bowl, combine melted butter, 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon, then toss the cut cinnamon roll pieces to coat them.

Assemble and Bake Your Cobbler

  • Evenly spread the coated cinnamon roll pieces over the apple filling in the baking dish.
  • Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the cinnamon roll topping is golden brown and cooked through.
  • Warm the icing packet in warm water for a minute, then drizzle the warm icing over the baked cobbler immediately after removing it from the oven.
