Equipment

  • Oven
  • Large Skillet

Ingredients

Bread Bowls

  • 4 units pre-baked round bread loaves sourdough or Italian bread, or large, crusty rolls

Chicken

  • 1.5 lbs Boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs cut into bite-sized pieces

Dairy

  • 1 pint Heavy Cream (about 2 cups)
  • 1 cup Parmesan Cheese freshly grated, plus extra for garnish

Aromatics & Fats

  • 4-6 cloves Garlic minced (divided for bread and sauce)
  • 4-6 tablespoons Butter unsalted (divided for bread and sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil

Seasoning & Garnish

  • 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning plus extra for chicken and bread
  • Salt and Black Pepper To taste
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Parsley chopped, for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Bread Bowls

  • Preheat oven to 350-375°F (175-190°C), then cut a circle from the top of each bread loaf to create a lid and scoop out the soft interior to form a ½ to ¾ inch thick shell.
  • Melt 2-3 tablespoons of butter, mix with 1-2 minced garlic cloves and a pinch of Italian seasoning, then brush the inside of the bread bowls and lids with the garlicky butter.
  • Bake for 5-10 minutes until lightly golden and fragrant, then set aside.

Cook the Chicken

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add the chicken pieces seasoned with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning, then cook for 5-7 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.

Make the Alfredo Sauce

  • In the same skillet, melt 2-3 tablespoons of butter over medium heat, then add 2-3 cloves of minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer, stirring continuously.
  • Reduce heat to low, gradually stir in freshly grated Parmesan cheese until it melts into a smooth, thick sauce, then season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  • If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of milk or chicken broth.

Combine and Fill

  • Return the cooked chicken to the Alfredo sauce and stir to coat evenly.

Assemble and Bake

  • Spoon generous amounts of the creamy chicken Alfredo mixture into each toasted garlic bread bowl, optionally sprinkling extra Parmesan cheese on top.
  • Place the filled bread bowls on a baking sheet and return them to the oven for 5-10 minutes, or until the filling is heated through and bubbly, and the cheese is melted and slightly golden.

Garnish and Serve

  • Remove the bread bowls from the oven, garnish with fresh chopped parsley, and serve immediately with their toasted garlic bread lids on the side for dipping.

Notes

For an extra touch, you can rub the inside of the bread bowls with a raw garlic clove before brushing with the garlic butter. If you don't have pre-baked bread loaves, you can use large crusty rolls and adjust baking times accordingly. Ensure your heavy cream is at room temperature to prevent the sauce from breaking when adding cheese. For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the Alfredo sauce along with the garlic.
