Ingredients
  

Fudge

  • 2.5 cups Semi-sweet chocolate chips (or dark chocolate chips for a richer flavor)
  • 1 can Sweetened condensed milk 14-ounce can
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter cut into pieces
  • 1 teaspoon Pure peppermint extract start with ¾ tsp and add more if you like a stronger mint flavor
  • Pinch of salt Enhances the chocolate flavor

Topping

  • 0.5 cup Crushed candy canes optional, but highly recommended for festive flair

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang and lightly grease it.
  • Melt chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter in a heatproof bowl over simmering water or in a microwave, stirring until smooth.

Assembly

  • Remove from heat, then stir in peppermint extract and salt until well combined.
  • Quickly pour and spread the fudge mixture evenly into the prepared pan.
  • Optionally, sprinkle crushed candy canes over the top and gently press them down.

Finishing

  • Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2-3 hours until firm.
  • Lift the fudge out, peel off the paper, and cut into 1-inch squares with a warm, sharp knife.

Notes

For easier cutting, make sure your knife is warm and clean. You can also vary the extract flavor for different fudges like orange or almond. Keep refrigerated for best results.
