Equipment

  • electric mixer
  • large bowl
  • medium bowl
  • baking sheets
  • parchment paper
  • heart-shaped cookie cutter
  • wire rack

Ingredients

Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks) softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (or a mix of milk and dark for extra flavor)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, beat softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips until they are evenly dispersed.
  • Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes for best results.

Baking

  • Roll out the chilled dough to ¼-inch thickness and cut out heart shapes using a cookie cutter.
  • Transfer cookies to prepared baking sheets, leaving 2 inches between each, and bake for 9-11 minutes until golden brown.
  • Let cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra flavor, use a mix of milk and dark chocolate chips. Chilling the dough helps prevent the cookies from spreading too much.
