Crab Roll

  • 12 ounces fresh Maine crab meat (Jonah or Peekytoe) picked clean
  • 2 tablespoons good quality mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon celery finely chopped (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon chives finely chopped (optional)
  • 4 count New England-style hot dog buns
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter softened
  • sea salt Pinch (optional)
  • black pepper Pinch (optional)

Instructions
 

Crab Roll Assembly

  • Inspect the crab meat for any shell fragments and place it in a mixing bowl.
  • Combine mayonnaise, and optional celery, chives, salt, and pepper with the crab meat, folding gently to avoid shredding.
  • Spread softened butter generously on the flat sides of the hot dog buns.
  • Toast the buttered buns on a griddle over medium heat for 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown and warm.
  • Spoon the crab salad into the toasted buns and serve immediately, with optional sides.

Notes

For best results, use fresh, high-quality Maine crab meat. Adjust the amount of mayonnaise to your preference, ensuring the crab is lightly coated. Serve with your favorite classic sides like potato chips and a pickle.
