  • Lay bread on a clean surface and use a 2-3 inch heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out hearts, aiming for 1-2 hearts per slice.
  • Lightly butter one side of each bread heart.
  • Place half of the buttered bread hearts, butter-side down, in a cold skillet, then top each with a small piece of American cheese.
  • Place another bread heart on top of the cheese, butter-side up.
  • Cook for 2-4 minutes per side over medium-low heat until golden brown and cheese is melted.
  • Serve immediately.

Keep a close eye on the heat to prevent burning while ensuring the cheese melts thoroughly. Adjust cooking time based on your stove and desired crispiness.
