- 1 lb breakfast sausage cooked and crumbled
- 6 stale bread cubed
- 1 ½ shredded cheddar cheese divided
- 8 large eggs
- 1 ½ cups whole milk
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- ½ cup chopped bell pepper or onion Optional
Preparation
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Evenly scatter the cooked sausage, cubed bread, and optional bell pepper or onion in the prepared baking dish.
Sprinkle 1 cup of cheddar cheese over the sausage and bread mixture.
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until well combined.
Pour the egg mixture over the ingredients in the baking dish, gently pressing down any bread to ensure it absorbs the liquid.
Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of cheddar cheese over the top of the casserole.
Cover the dish and refrigerate overnight or for at least 4 hours to allow the flavors to meld.
Baking and Serving
When ready to bake, uncover the casserole and bake for 45-55 minutes until the center is set and golden brown.
