Equipment

  • Paper towels
  • Small bowl
  • Whisk
  • Large skillet or cast-iron pan
  • Serving platter
  • Toothpicks

Ingredients

Main

  • 1.5 lbs sirloin, flank steak, or ribeye cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger grated (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon cold water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or vegetable oil for searing

Garnish

  • sesame seeds for garnish
  • 2 tablespoons green onions sliced, for garnish

Instructions

Preparation

  • Pat the steak cubes dry and season lightly with salt and pepper.

Sauce

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger (if using), rice vinegar, and sesame oil to create the sauce.

Searing

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear steak in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until browned, then remove and set aside.

Thickening the Sauce

  • Reduce heat to medium, pour the sauce into the skillet, and bring to a simmer. Whisk in the cornstarch slurry and stir until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.

Finishing

  • Return the seared steak to the skillet, toss to coat, and cook for another minute. Transfer to a platter, garnish with sesame seeds and green onions, and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, do not overcrowd the pan when searing the steak, as this will prevent proper browning. Adjust the amount of ginger to your preference. Serve these sticky steak bites with a side of rice or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
