Ingredients

Truffle Base

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 pound powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large orange zest

Optional Coatings

  • Powdered sugar
  • cocoa powder
  • shredded coconut
  • finely chopped nuts

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a medium bowl, beat the softened butter until it is light and fluffy, using an electric mixer for best results.
  • Gradually add heavy cream and vanilla extract to the butter, mixing until smooth and well combined.
  • Slowly incorporate the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition until the mixture is smooth and lump-free, then stir in the fresh orange zest to form a thick, sticky dough.
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or until the mixture is firm enough to easily roll.
  • Once chilled, scoop out small, uniform portions, about 1 tablespoon each, and roll them into balls between your palms.
  • Optionally, roll the truffles in your chosen coating, such as powdered sugar, cocoa powder, shredded coconut, or chopped nuts.
  • Arrange the truffles on a platter and serve immediately, or store them in the refrigerator until ready to enjoy.

Notes

For best results, ensure your butter is truly softened to achieve a smooth truffle base. Get creative with your coatings—consider sprinkles or melted chocolate for extra flair!
