Equipment

  • Large bowl
  • Deep pan or pot
  • Slotted spoon
  • Plate
  • Paper towels

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 500 g potatoes boiled and mashed
  • 150 g mozzarella cheese grated
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cup vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, grated mozzarella cheese, all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined and a dough forms.
  • Take a small portion of the potato mixture and roll it into a stick shape, about 3-4 inches long and 0.5 inch thick. Repeat with the remaining mixture.
  • Place the potato cheese sticks on a plate and chill in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes to firm up.

Cooking

  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or pot over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  • Carefully add the chilled potato cheese sticks to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
  • Fry for 3-5 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Flip occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  • Remove the fried potato cheese sticks with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serving

  • Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ketchup, marinara, or a spicy aioli.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of garlic powder or onion powder to the potato mixture. Ensure the oil is at the correct temperature for frying to achieve maximum crispiness. Adjust salt and pepper to taste.
