  • large mixing bowl
  • whisk
  • heart-shaped cookie cutter (2-3 inch size)

Ingredients

Brownie Batter

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chunks optional

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang and lightly greasing it.
  • Melt unsalted butter; add 1/4 cup chocolate chips and stir until smooth, then let cool slightly.

Mixing

  • Whisk melted chocolate-butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar; beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, mixing until just combined, then gently fold in remaining chocolate chips.

Baking and Cutting

  • Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly; bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
  • Cool completely in the pan on a wire rack for 1-2 hours.
  • Lift the brownie slab from the pan using the parchment paper, place on a cutting board, and press a heart-shaped cookie cutter to create heart shapes.

Notes

Cooling the brownies completely is crucial for clean cuts. For extra decadence, drizzle with melted white chocolate or a raspberry glaze.
