  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar or to taste

  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract optional

  • Combine whole milk and heavy cream in a small saucepan.
  • Heat the mixture over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until hot but not boiling.
  • Reduce heat to low, then add chopped dark chocolate, sugar, and salt.
  • Whisk continuously for one to two minutes until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.
  • Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract if using, and immediately pour into a mug to enjoy.

Notes

For an extra touch, top with whipped cream or a sprinkle of cocoa powder.
