Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • In a medium bowl, combine ½ cup melted butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, vanilla extract, and salt; stir until well combined, then mix in the chopped pecans.
  • Pour the pecan mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  • Evenly sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix over the pecan layer.
  • Melt the remaining ½ cup of butter and slowly and evenly drizzle it over the dry cake mix layer.
  • If desired, gently drizzle the evaporated milk over the butter layer.
  • Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the top is golden brown, bubbly, and the edges are set.
  • Let the dump cake cool on a wire rack for at least 15-20 minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can toast the pecans lightly before adding them to the mixture. If you prefer a richer, more gooey texture, do not skip the evaporated milk step. This cake is best served warm or at room temperature, perhaps with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
