  • Toothpicks or skewers
  • Serving platter

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 Large Seedless Watermelon firm, heavy for its size, with a relatively flat end for stability
  • 1 cup Strawberries fresh, hulled
  • 1 cup Green Grapes fresh
  • 1/2 cup Blueberries or Blackberries fresh
  • 1/2 cup Raspberries fresh
  • 1 slice Pineapple thick, for star
  • 1 Kiwi peeled, sliced

Garnish & Assembly

  • Fresh Mint Sprigs for garnish
  • Fresh Rosemary Sprigs for garnish
  • Skewers or sturdy toothpicks plenty

Instructions

Preparation

  • Cover your work surface with newspaper or a plastic tablecloth.
  • Slice 1/2 to 1 inch off one end of the watermelon to create a stable, flat base for the tree.
  • Stand the watermelon upright and carefully carve it into a cone shape, tapering from the wide base to a point.
  • For the optional star, cut a thick pineapple slice with a star-shaped cookie cutter and attach it to the top with a toothpick.

Decorating the Tree

  • Begin attaching fruit "ornaments" using toothpicks, breaking them in half for smaller fruits.
  • First, secure larger fruits like strawberries or pineapple chunks evenly around the tree.
  • Then, fill in any gaps with smaller fruits such as blueberries, raspberries, grapes, and kiwi slices to create colorful patterns.
  • For garlands, thread grapes or blueberries onto longer skewers and gently wrap them around the tree.
  • Tuck small sprigs of fresh mint or rosemary between the fruits to mimic pine needles and add aroma.
  • Step back to assess and fill any bare spots with more fruit until the tree looks beautifully festive and abundant.

Finishing Touches

  • Carefully transfer the finished Watermelon Christmas Tree to a serving platter.
  • Refrigerate until ready to serve to keep it fresh and chilled.

Notes

For extra festive flair, you can lightly dust the finished tree with powdered sugar right before serving to mimic snow. Ensure all fruits are thoroughly washed and dried before assembly to prevent sogginess. This tree is best assembled a few hours before serving.
