Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and shortening with an electric mixer until light and fluffy (2-3 minutes), scraping the sides of the bowl as needed.
  • Gradually add 6 cups of sifted powdered sugar to the mixture on low speed until fully incorporated and thick.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract, almond extract, and pinch of salt on low speed until they are well combined.
  • Slowly drizzle in 4 tablespoons of cold milk or cream, then increase the mixer speed to medium-high and beat for 3-5 minutes until the frosting is light and fluffy.
  • If needed, adjust the consistency by adding more powdered sugar for thickness or additional milk/cream for thinning, one spoonful at a time, until the desired texture is achieved.

Notes

For best results, ensure your butter is truly softened to room temperature for a smooth, lump-free frosting. This frosting is excellent on sugar cookies, cupcakes, or even as a cake filling. If making ahead, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator and re-whip before use, adding a splash of milk or cream if it's too stiff.
