  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Garden Toppings

  • 1/4 cup finely chopped parsley
  • 1/4 cup finely diced red bell pepper
  • 1/4 cup finely diced yellow bell pepper
  • 2 tablespoons sliced black olives
  • 1 tablespoon pine nuts lightly toasted
  • Paprika for dusting

Preparation

  • Combine chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, garlic, olive oil, cumin, salt, and pepper in a food processor.
  • Process until smooth, adding cold water if needed to reach desired consistency.
  • Transfer hummus to a serving bowl or platter and smooth the surface.
  • Chop parsley, dice bell peppers, slice olives, and toast pine nuts.
  • Sprinkle parsley around the edge of the hummus to create a border.
  • Arrange diced bell peppers in the center as "flowers" and place sliced olives as "stones" or centers.
  • Sprinkle toasted pine nuts among the garden elements.
  • Drizzle with extra olive oil and dust with paprika.
  • Serve immediately with pita bread, vegetable sticks, or crackers.

Notes

For extra flavor, roast the garlic before mincing. You can also experiment with other finely chopped vegetables for your garden patch, such as cucumber or cherry tomatoes.
