Ingredients

Pastry

  • 1 sheet Puff Pastry from a 17.3-ounce package, thawed

Filling

  • 4 ounces Cream Cheese softened
  • 2-3 medium Jalapeños finely diced (seeds and membranes removed for less heat, or left in for more spice)
  • 1/2 cup Cheddar Cheese shredded
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt or to taste
  • 1/8 teaspoon Black Pepper or to taste

Topping

  • 1 large Egg beaten (for egg wash)
  • Everything bagel seasoning Optional Topping
  • poppy seeds Optional Topping
  • sesame seeds Optional Topping

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper, then unroll the thawed puff pastry onto a lightly floured surface or parchment paper.

Make the Filling

  • In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese, diced jalapeños, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper, mixing until well combined.

Assemble the Twists

  • Spread the jalapeño-cream cheese mixture evenly over one half of the puff pastry, leaving a small border, then fold the other half over and press to seal.
  • Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the pastry into 1-inch wide strips, and then twist each strip several times to create a spiral.

Bake and Serve

  • Place the twisted strips onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between them, and brush the tops with beaten egg wash; optionally sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning or other toppings.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed, then let them cool slightly on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack to serve warm.

Notes

For extra heat, leave some of the seeds and membranes in the jalapeños. These twists are best served warm, but can be enjoyed at room temperature as well.
