Equipment

  • Potato masher
  • Mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Skull-shaped mold (optional)
  • Piping bag (optional)

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 large Potatoes e.g., Russet
  • 2 tablespoons Butter melted
  • 1/4 cup Milk
  • 1/2 cup Cheddar Cheese shredded
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Green Onions chopped (for garnish, optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil for baking

Instructions

Preparation

  • Peel and quarter the potatoes, then boil them in salted water until very tender.
  • Drain the potatoes, return them to the pot, and mash until smooth, removing any lumps.

Mixing and Shaping

  • In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes with melted butter, milk, shredded cheddar cheese, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly incorporated.
  • Using a skull-shaped mold or your hands, shape the potato mixture into small skull bites. If desired, use a piping bag with a small round tip to create eye sockets and nose holes.

Cooking

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a baking sheet with olive oil. Arrange the potato skulls on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the potato bites are golden brown and slightly crispy on the outside. Alternatively, you can shallow fry them in a pan until golden.

Serving

  • Carefully remove the skull potato bites from the oven or pan.
  • Garnish with chopped green onions, if desired, and serve immediately as a spooky appetizer.

Notes

For an extra spooky effect, add a drop of black food coloring to the potato mixture before shaping.
