Ingredients

Meat & Dairy

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 or 85/15 works best for flavor)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or a cheddar-jack blend)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs

Vegetables & Produce

  • small onion chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped bell pepper (any color, optional but adds a nice crunch)
  • 1 clove garlic minced

Pantry Staples

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional, for a tangy kick)

Toppings (Optional)

  • Pickle slices for topping
  • Sesame seeds for topping (to mimic a bun)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9-inch pie plate or a similar-sized baking dish.

Cooking the Filling

  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat, then drain any excess grease.
  • Stir in the chopped onion, bell pepper (if using), and minced garlic, cooking until the vegetables soften (about 5-7 minutes).
  • Season the beef mixture with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce, then remove from heat.

Assembling the Pie

  • Spread the cooked beef mixture evenly into the prepared pie plate and sprinkle 1 cup of the shredded cheese over the beef.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, flour, and Dijon mustard (if using) until smooth and well combined.
  • Carefully pour the egg mixture evenly over the beef and cheese in the pie plate, then sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of shredded cheese on top.

Baking and Serving

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the pie rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving, optionally topping with pickle slices and sesame seeds for a cheeseburger vibe.

Notes

For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the beef mixture. This pie can be made ahead of time and reheated gently in the oven.
