  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 2 cups baking mix (like Bisquick)
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the uncooked sausage, softened cream cheese, baking mix, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder (if using), and black pepper.
  • Mix all ingredients thoroughly with your hands until well combined, ensuring no streaks of cream cheese or dry baking mix remain.
  • Roll the mixture into 1-inch to 1 1/2-inch balls and place them an inch apart on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 160°F/71°C).
  • Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the mixture. These sausage balls can be prepared ahead of time and frozen before baking. Simply thaw overnight in the refrigerator and bake as directed. Serve them with your favorite dipping sauce, such as honey mustard or ranch dressing.
