  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 bell pepper (any color), chopped
  • 1 can diced tomatoes (14.5 ounce), undrained
  • 1 can tomato sauce (8 ounce)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup beef broth

  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (for topping, optional)
  • Fresh parsley chopped (for garnish, optional)

Cooking Steps

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, then add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain any excess grease.
  • Add chopped onion to the skillet and cook for 3-5 minutes until softened; stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  • Stir in chopped bell pepper and cook for 3-4 minutes until slightly softened, then add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper, and beef broth.
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Optionally, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top during the last few minutes to melt; garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.

Notes

For a spicier version, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the Italian seasoning. Serve this dish with rice, pasta, or a simple green salad.
