Cheese Ball Mixture

  • 2 packages Cream Cheese softened
  • 2 cups Smoked Gouda
  • 1 cup Caramelized Onions cooled and finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Thyme fresh or ½ teaspoon dried
  • ½ teaspoon Black Pepper

Coating

  • 1 cup Walnuts finely chopped, for coating

Instructions

Preparation

  • Ensure cream cheese is at room temperature for a smooth mixture; cut into smaller cubes to speed softening.
  • Combine softened cream cheese, shredded smoked gouda, finely chopped caramelized onions, thyme, and black pepper in a large mixing bowl.
  • Mix thoroughly with a spatula or electric mixer until all ingredients are uniformly combined, scraping down bowl sides as needed.

Shaping & Chilling

  • Spoon the mixture onto plastic wrap, gather the edges, and gently form it into a ball shape.
  • Chill the wrapped cheese ball in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or until firm, to help it hold shape and meld flavors.

Finishing & Serving

  • Unwrap the chilled cheese ball and roll it in finely chopped walnuts, pressing to ensure the coating adheres well.
  • Serve the coated cheese ball on a platter with an assortment of crackers, fresh vegetables, pita bread, or pretzels.

Notes

For best results, make sure your cream cheese is completely softened. You can prepare this cheese ball a day in advance and store it in the refrigerator before coating and serving.
