Ingredients

Puff Pastry

  • 2 sheets Puff Pastry thawed

Cream Cheese Filling

  • 8 ounces Cream Cheese full-fat, softened
  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 large Egg Yolk

Filling & Topping

  • 1/2 cup Strawberry Jam or Preserves or finely diced fresh strawberries

Egg Wash

  • 1 large Egg for egg wash
  • 1 tablespoon Water for egg wash

Glaze

  • 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons Milk or Lemon Juice for glaze

Instructions

Preparation

  • Beat softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and egg yolk in a medium bowl until smooth and creamy; set aside.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper; unroll one sheet of thawed puff pastry onto a lightly floured surface.

Shaping & Filling

  • Cut puff pastry into 9 equal squares; fold each square diagonally, make a small inward cut, then unfold and press the points together to form a heart shape.
  • Place shaped hearts on baking sheets, then spoon about 1 tablespoon of cream cheese mixture and 1 teaspoon of strawberry jam into the center of each.

Baking & Glazing

  • Whisk together egg and water for an egg wash, then lightly brush the exposed puff pastry edges of each danish.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown, puffed up, and the filling is slightly set.
  • Cool danishes slightly on baking sheets before transferring to a wire rack; whisk powdered sugar with milk or lemon juice to make a glaze, then drizzle over cooled danishes.

Notes

For crisper danishes, ensure all ingredients are cold before assembly. Adjust the amount of lemon juice in the glaze for desired tartness and consistency.
