  • Medium bowl
  • Whisk
  • Large bowl
  • Electric mixer
  • Plastic wrap
  • Cookie scoop (optional)
  • Wire rack

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour 270g
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature 2 sticks / 226g
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar 150g
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar 200g, or light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Chocolate

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips 170g
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips 170g, or 2 cups of your preferred chocolate

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  • Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl; set aside.

Making the Dough

  • In a large bowl, cream softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy, scraping down the bowl as needed.
  • Beat in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet, mixing on low speed until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips by hand until evenly distributed.

Chilling and Baking

  • Cover the bowl and refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes, or even overnight for best results.
  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough about 1.5-2 inches apart onto prepared baking sheets; use a cookie scoop for uniform cookies.
  • Bake for 9-12 minutes until edges are golden and centers are slightly soft; they will firm up as they cool.
  • Remove from oven and cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For an enhanced flavor and chewier texture, do not skip the refrigeration step; chilling the dough allows the ingredients to meld together better and prevents the cookies from spreading too much during baking.
