  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • 1 bottle your favorite BBQ sauce (18 oz)
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • Pat chicken dry with paper towels and season with salt and pepper.
  • Place the seasoned chicken in the bottom of your slow cooker.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the BBQ sauce, chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar (if using), smoked paprika, and garlic powder.
  • Pour the mixed sauce evenly over the chicken in the slow cooker.
  • Cover and cook on low for 3-4 hours or on high for 2-3 hours, until the chicken is tender and easily shredded.
  • Remove the cooked chicken from the slow cooker and shred it with two forks.
  • Return the shredded chicken to the slow cooker and stir it into the BBQ sauce until well coated.
  • Let the chicken simmer on warm for another 15-30 minutes to meld the flavors.

Notes

Serve this versatile BBQ chicken on buns for sandwiches, over rice, or with your favorite side dishes. Adjust the amount of brown sugar to your sweetness preference. If you like a little heat, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the sauce mixture.
