Equipment

  • Large baking sheet
  • Parchment paper or silicone baking mat
  • Medium saucepan
  • Heatproof spatula

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter
  • 1 cup Light Brown Sugar packed
  • 1 Saltine Crackers sleeve (about 40 crackers)
  • 1-2 teaspoons Flaky Sea Salt

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  • Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are snug but not overlapping.
  • Combine butter and brown sugar in a saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring until boiling. Continue to boil for 3-5 minutes until thickened and golden brown, stirring occasionally.
  • Pour the hot caramel over the crackers, spreading it evenly with a heatproof spatula to coat all crackers.
  • Bake for 5-7 minutes until the caramel is bubbly and cracker edges darken.
  • Sprinkle warm cracker bites generously with flaky sea salt.
  • Allow the cracker bites to cool completely on the baking sheet at room temperature or in the refrigerator for faster setting (about 30 minutes).
  • Once completely cool and set, break the large cracker sheet into individual bite-sized pieces.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of vanilla extract to the caramel mixture after it has boiled but before pouring it over the crackers. Adjust the amount of flaky sea salt to your preference, from a subtle sprinkle to a more pronounced salty crunch.
