Main Ingredients

  • 8 cups diced bread
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 2 tbsp fresh sage, chopped

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread the diced bread on a baking sheet and toast for 7-10 minutes, until lightly golden.
  • In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and celery, cooking until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Stir in the broth, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  • Add the toasted bread cubes to the skillet, tossing gently to combine. Ensure all bread is moistened.
  • Transfer the stuffing mixture to a baking dish. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and crispy.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of poultry seasoning along with the herbs. You can also mix in cooked sausage or mushrooms for a heartier stuffing.
